Redefining and highlighting the beautiful interior of St Mary's Church, Snijder has created a series of artworks that celebrate this historic place of worship, through times of war and destruction and as a place of peace, tranquillity and hope. "Between the beautiful vastness and tranquillity of the Moors and the cold dark void of the North Sea lies a sanctuary for melancholy. Thriving on Anne Brontë's sorrowful poems, St Mary’s church stands as a beacon of light. ‘The Fading Light Of Ruins’ exhibition builds upon the thought of what once was. Celebrating the ruins but also reclaiming, with the central light installation, that double-towered status that once stood here. Once in a while we need to pinpoint a certain perspective of this heritage but also, with a reflecting thought, embrace each further perspective that passes by: where questions are asked and new beginnings wander off in the calm vast sea of personal growth. Therefore this return is engulfed in green light. Green, which stands for ‘a new beginning’ and ‘hope’."
